I live in Kansas City.
I've been trying to teach myself tabla over the past seven years, mostly through various websites. A couple of weeks ago I had the rare opportunity to host Sandipji in my home for two days. Both days were filled with intense learning and practice. To say that I was challenged is an understatement. He helped my unlearn all my bad habits as well as share with me his deep knowledge of Classical Indian music.
My plan is to continue studying with Sandipji for as long as he'll have me as a student. I'd encourage any musician to take lessons with him, even if its not on an Indian instrument. Having knowledge of Indian music theory and rhythm concepts will do nothing but broaden any musicians knowledge and "toolbox".
Sandip Burman has been playing for well for 30 thirty years. He's also played and toured with Bela Fleck. He has asked me to help him start a "school" for Indian music here in KC. This would be for any musician/instrument. Please email me or respond to this post if you want to learn about this. Its an incredible opportunity.
Peace, Chris
