What's the tuning for a banjo?

I'm sure it's a beginner's question-
I was just wondering the tuning for a banjo. I sometimes play acoustic guitar and find different tunings to be really conducive to playing lead lines and such. My favorite is a straight up open major chord.

There are several but open G ... gDGBD is the most common.

private teacher after my school's Marching season ends (I'm not too good at learning from a book. Would rather a person), and my friend has asked if I'd want to do some Banjo work in his band for the School's talent show in January. Which brings me to my question:
